With the fourth largest economy in the United States, it’s embarrassing that our school system ranks near-last.

We can all agree that Florida’s education system is in dire need of help. According to a report in USA Today, Florida “receives some of the lowest funding of any state school system in the country. The state allocates only 2.7% of its taxable resources to school funding, well below the 3.3% average funding across all school systems.” Recent funding cuts has resulted in teacher layoffs and the elimination of many activities including music, arts and athletic programs. Temporary fixes are barely keeping the system together and it is our children who are paying the price!

I am committed to funding our public schools, colleges and universities! Students not only deserve the best education possible but our local economy depends on an educated work force. I am also committed to improving our technical education and vocational rehabilitation educational systems. I agree with Nelson Mandella when he stated that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
